Ask, And Ye Shall Receive!

Well, I was just complaining about nothing exciting and bam it happens. My mom called Sunday morning bright and early, to tell me that my (pregnant) sister-in-law fell down three or four steps at four in the morning and my brother took her to the hospital. Apparently she was in search of Tums and went down to the basement to find them. She is lucky she didn't fall down all the steps (12 or so) just a few of them.

So she went to the hospital and she is having contractions and they won't stop. She is going to be released today if all goes well and she stops having contractions. The doctors were afraid that she may have ruptured the placenta when she fell.

I wanted some excitement but not bad excitement!

Are You Serious?

I can not believe they made a movie about this! It is bad enough that they made a whole album in regards to it. Nothing like beating a dead horse!

Ado at NBC Over Ad for Dixie Chicks Film

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK - The Dixie Chicks are again at the center of a controversy over the limits of opinionated talk. A film company said Friday that NBC wouldn't accept an advertisement for "Shut Up & Sing," a movie about the fuss created by Dixie Chick Natalie Maines' comment that she was ashamed President Bush was a fellow Texan. The network suggested the complaint may be a publicity stunt.

The movie premieres this weekend in New York and Los Angeles, and network affiliates in both those cities have run ads promoting it, according to the Weinstein Co., which is distributing the film.

The problem arose when the Weinstein Co. began conversations with networks about buying ads to be shown nationally, in anticipation of later wider release of the film.

The ad includes footage of the Iraq War, gives a brief background on Maines' 2003 comment made onstage in London, and shows Maines dismissing as "dumb" a comment made by Bush about the Dixie Chicks.

CBS has agreed to air the ad, a spokeswoman for the Weinstein Co. said. ABC and Fox have not given an answer while the CW and NBC rejected it. The film distributors said NBC explained it was because the ad disparaged President Bush.

"We were very surprised, especially because this is a movie that deals with the whole issue," said Gary Faber, head of marketing at Weinstein. He suggested that the statements made in the ad are not unlike the opinions offered by commentators on political talk shows.

But Alan Wurtzel, head of standards and practices at NBC, said it is network policy not to accept ads on issues of public controversy _ like abortion or the war.

While the Weinstein Co. had shown NBC its ads, it had not inquired about buying commercial time, he said. Generally, when an ad is rejected, prospective advertisers return and work with the network on ways to make it acceptable _ as was done with the Michael Moore film "Fahrenheit 9/11," he said.

But NBC heard nothing more from makers of "Shut Up & Sing" until portions of what NBC executives thought were confidential business correspondence showed up in a news release, he said.

"There was no attempt to come back and have a conversation," Wurtzel said. "There are times when some advertisers get more publicity for having their ad rejected."

The CW said a Weinstein representative discussed the ad with a low-level network official who questioned whether the network had the right programming to fit the ad.

"It was the beginning of a dialogue at a low level and it didn't get beyond that when they decided to go to the media about it," network spokesman Paul McGuire said.

The CW would accept the ad if commercial time was bought, he said.

Un-Inspired

Lately my blog has been lacking, because lately my life has been lacking. I've been just sitting around the house not doing anything. I haven't been hanging out with friends, I haven't done anything fun and exciting, nothing! I would have liked to gone to Lancaster or an Orchard today but the husband doesn't want to and my mom has been working Saturdays lately so I am forced to sit at home!

Everyone at work has been getting on my nerves and fighting with one another, I feel like I am in High School! That has been the extent of my excitement watching other people not getting along and that's getting old and pathetic.

Shades Of Autumn

Saturday I went to another Floral Design Class at Longwood Gardens. "Shades of Autumn" it was very fun and taught how to condition flowers so that they last longer.  As well as how to work with leaves and such in a flower arrangement.

The teacher made some crazy looking flower arrangements:

Here is what I made:

My second arrangement isin't "Shades of Autumn." But, they said we could make another arrangement and really, who can pass up monkshood, roses and stargazer lilies?

Art Deco

Below are the examples the instructor gave us:

heather-127.JPG  Symmetrical

  heather-126.JPG Sunburst

heather-124.JPG  Zig-Zag

heather-125.JPG  Framed

Personally I DO NOT like this style of arranging. You almost have to be an architect or an engineer. Every placement of a flower has to be well thought out and calculated.

On the other hand, I am glad I took this class so that I now know how to do this style if any one ever wants a modern/contemporary flower arrangement.

This style of arranging was popular during the 1920's though the 1930's

Guidelines for the Art Deco floral design:

  • Line design usually of geometric form

  • Very simple style. Eliminate all unnecessary and confusing detail

  • Exotic and dramatic

  • Unusual plant material. Plant materials used as flowers and part of the overall form not simply as filler

  • Strong angular forms

  • Rich colors, refrain from using pastels

  • Stemless flowers floated in shallow bowls or plates

  • Unusual combinations of fruits and vegetables with plant material

  • All foliage arrangements are very popular during this time period

  • Odd combinations of similar textures such as eggs and gardenias

  • The use of gold gilding or silvering of fruits and foliage are popular for use in formal dining tables

Here is the arrangement I made:

heather-140.JPG

The two red flowers in the middle are Heliconia, the two red flowers on the side are Anthurium and the purple cluster of flowers towards the front is Cockscomb. I don't remember all the foliage name but the leaves in the bottom of the vase are Croton.

Not bad for my first time!

Fun Times Here I Come!

Tomorrow, The Parents, The Husband, My Gibby and I are heading up to Lancaster! I am so excited we are going to eat at Shady Maple Smorgasbord and then go shopping!

Before we do that though I am going to take an Art Deco Floral Design Class at Longwood Gardens! I am really excited! I can't wait to see what new things they will teach me!

To top of tomorrow I am being taken out to the Melting Pot by my best friends for my birthday! What a great way to end the day!

This could be the best birthday week in History!

P.S. I do indeed celebrate birthday week; this year I have tilted this week "Birthday Extravaganza!"

It's My Birthday!

bdayecard.jpg

Well, Today is my birthday, I am officially 22!

I had a great day with my husband! I woke up and he had breakfast already made for me. Then he had a pile of presents set out for me: Two new movies, Click and Big Daddy (both hilarious) and a Vera Bradley Luxe Bowler and Wristlet! He is the best! My favorite actor (Adam Sandler) and my favorite purse brand (Vera)! Then we got ready and headed down to the Baltimore Aquarium/Inner Harbor Area. That was lots of fun! Went to dinner at Chili's one of my favorite restaurants and headed home. We had wanted to check out the new bowling alley down the street so we headed over and played a game, I really suck at bowling! I haven't gone in forever so I am going to have to go more and practice. We came home watched a movie and then I will go back to reality tomorrow!

Thanks husband for making my day so special!

Taylor Swift

I love her! She is such a great singer! If you liked Cyndi Thomson, then you will love Taylor Swift! Her album doesn't come out until October 24th (sniffle, sniffle) so until then I have to hope the radio will play her! I strongly urge you to buy her CD when it comes out.

Thanks Mom!

Today while my Mom and I were walking through the mall I just happened to mention that I wanted the Vera Luxe Boxy Tote and she bought it for me for my birthday! Yes, I am ecstatic!

Come to find out the husband was planning on buying it for me!  Sorry Husband! Mom swooped in before you!

Helpful Hints and Tips

My mom sent this to me the other day so I thought I would pass it along.

1. Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove. Set heat to med-low and heat til' warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy microwaved pizza.

2. Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash 'til they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw the bag away when done for easy clean up.

3. Expanding Frosting

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with  your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar/calories per serving.

4. Re-heating Refrigerated Bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

5. Newspaper Weeds Away

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go, cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening fabric, they will not get through wet newspapers.

6. Broken Glass

Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken pieces of glass. The fibers catch ones you can't see!

7. No more Mosquitoes

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

8. Squirrel Away

To keep squirrels away from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

9. ID

If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike.

10. Flexible Vacuum

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add and empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

11. Reduce Static Cling

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and voila static is gone.

12. Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter and watch how easily it comes out.

13. Foggy Windshield

Hate foggy windshield? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser. Works better than a cloth.

14. Re-opening an Envelope

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. It will unseal easily.

15. Conditioner

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper then shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when tried it in your hair.

16. Goodbye Fruit Flies

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with apple cider vinegar and 2 drops of dish-washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

17. Get Rid Of Ants

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home" and can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed.

18. Take Baby Powder To The Beach

Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When you're ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder and the sand will slide right off your skin.

This is the new Mesa Red Bowler! Super Cute!

Boring...

Well, tomorrow should be quite an exciting boring Saturday. The husband works third shift so he sleeps during the day. Tomorrow he will be sleeping and then wake up and go to work to pull a double (second and third shift). Typically I would hang out with my parents on Saturdays but they are going to a wedding. Therefore it will be the dog and I holding down the fort! I think I might season my clothes (it is getting quite nippy) or paint the bathroom. I haven't decided but I could very well end up just laying around watching TV and Movies all day. This weekend is a three day weekend (my favorite) and also our wedding anniversary weekend so we will be enjoying the Melting Pot on Monday (the day of Anniversary) that should be tons of fun! That will probably be the highlight of my weekend!

Sensational Seasons

L and I have decided to share our wealth of information of gardening, crafts and floral design to anyone willing to read. Check out our new blog on gardening and seasonal crafts: Sensational Seasons. Feel free to ask tons of questions and we will be happy to answer anything related to gardening, crafts or floral design!

Dreams

I had a dream last night. I dreamt I was in a hospital but no one I knew was around me. Everything was moving fast. I realize I am having a baby. T is nowhere insight. I deliver the one baby. There is chaos. I am pushing out another baby. In walks T. Just in time. That is all I can remember.

I wish I was an American Indian that could interpret dreams!

College Here I Come!

Today I went to take my placement test for school. Boy am I slow, I know I suck at math but I never brought home a grade that pitiful, (44) yes, that number is out of 100%. When I left high school 4 years ago I forgot all the pointless math they taught me.  I will never so long as I live have a use for letters with my numbers. I know you are ashamed for me! But on the bright side I am very good at English and I will be taking College-Level Composition, I am considering that to be a plus! On Sentence Skills I scored an 80 and on Reading Comprehension I scored a 92.  That is all they tested everyone on so I guess if you can read and add you are good to go!

I have to go to the Wilmington Campus (yuck) to talk to a counselor about Agribusiness Management and then call the Georgetown Campus (double yuck) to do Horticulture. Apparently I am going to be driving all over the State of De to go to school. I was planning on getting a dual degree in Horticulture and Agribusiness Management and they informed me that if I have two classes the same for the two programs then it will cancel the other class out, this equals me not having to do as much work as I originally thought I would!

After the first semester is over the dude said I can begin my on-line classes! Thank God! I was not feeling the whole going to Wilmington thing! P.S. I hate going to Wilmington if you couldn't tell already.

Painless....

This morning as I was driving to work I had the Lee Ann Womack CD playing and on comes the song Painless:

Met you in the kitchen
Said you needed to talk to me
Said you felt like those dirty dishes
And it was high time you came clean
The first few words just seemed to roll on past
Then it felt like you handed me a fist full of broken glass
Said take that

Painless
Like rain rollin’ off your shoulders
You made it look so painless
Didn’t blink an eye when you ran me over
And maybe you were waitin’ to cry
Cause baby when you said good-bye
You made it look so painless

Stood out in the driveway
Headlights fading down the street
Like you just left for cigarettes
And you weren’t really leaving me
The cold wind hit me in the chest
The tornadoes gone and there ain’t nothing left
But this heart-broke mess

Painless
Like rain rollin’ off your shoulders
You made it look so painless
Didn’t blink an eye when you ran me over
And maybe you were waitin’ to cry
Cause baby when you said good-bye
You made it look so painless

Painless
Didn’t blink an eye when you ran me over
And maybe you were waiting to cry
Cause baby when you said good-bye
You made it look so painless

You made it look so painless

Immediately one of my best friends comes to mind. The whole song may not "apply" to her, but I feel the majority does. I know she is very reluctant to talk about it so this is all I will say:

Her "ex" boyfriend is a dick!

That is all the pictures I can upload because the picture sizes are all above 1500KB.

WordPress, You suck!

I have a Frequent Visitor Pass so as you can imagine I go to Longwood a ridiculous amount of times in one year.

T and I went to Longwood on Saturday to see what was happening before they went to there next exhibit of flowers and displays. Currently the theme is Garden Fest and I believe it ends tomorrow. We had a great time, talking and enjoying one another's company. It makes you glad to have the opportunity to do so.

How Exciting!

Well, I am super excited!

I love Longwood Gardens, so I got to thinking I would like to take classes there to learn more about floral design. Me and L talked it over that we would like to go and take the classes together. I talked to the Husband about it today and told him everything it would entail and he wants me to go! I am so glad! The first three classes are this month so I am signing up for them this week and that will count towards the seven electives that you must take in order to receive a certificate. I also have to take five core courses, a lecture and the exam. I am so excited! I am really glad that I am finally using my talents like I am supposed to instead of just wasting them! Wish me luck!

First three classes I am taking:

  • Art Deco-Oct. 14

  • Shades Of Autumn-Oct. 21

  • Fall Floral Accents-Oct. 28
