I Am Going Home...

We are all going to Missouri Wednesday morning to get Grandma situated. She is moving back to Delaware with my parents so we need to get her stuff packed and moved. I will post again around January 8th.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Have a Happy New Year!

Harry A Wells-March 9, 1923 to December 23, 2006

Today at 10:00am my Grandpa passed on.

Please pray for my family.

Grandma seems to be okay but she has never been much on letting her emotions show.

The phone rang around 10:11 and then again around 10:30. I was sleeping and ignored the house phone when it rang. Then my cell phone rang and I thought, shit, this is it something happened.  I answered and it was my dad on the phone and told me everything that happened. My mom and grandma had gone home to sleep and my dad was staying with him when he just stopped breathing.  All of us went back to the hospital to see him one last time and then he will be cremated and we will have a memorial ceremony in Missouri sometime the first week of July.

The Death Watch...

Yesterday I went to the hospital to visit Grandpa, he has been there three weeks.

He is VERY sick, he has pneumonia and bronchitis. His lungs are very bad because when he was younger he smoked unfiltered Pal-Mals and worked at a Chemical Plant in St. Louis before they had safety guidelines and protocol. His lungs are pretty much ruined. Now he has pneumonia and it is so exhausting for him to breath so he sleeps, constantly. When you go in to say hi, he doesn't know you are there. I sat there for two hours just sitting. He is unable to feed himself because he is so weak. My mom and grandma feed him every meal and he hardly even eats anything.

We have all resigned ourselves to the fact that he will not be leaving the hospital and will pass away. Grandpa is 83 years old the oldest out of eleven brothers and sisters. He said the other day that he wished he was dead, so far it is looking that way. I guess all there is to do is pray, sit and wait.

Winter Wonderland

Last night me and the husband drove up to Longwood Gardens to see the Christmas Display.

 It was so pretty!

While we were still walking up to the main building where you buy your tickets, etc. a lady gives us a complimentary ticket to get in. It was very random! So essentially we got in for free because I have a frequent visitor pass and he had the complimentary ticket.

Anyway back to the display, it was so pretty! The outdoor lights looked pretty much the same as every year and I couldn't see where they had changed much. But, inside the observatory they had moravian stars hanging above one of the water displays and it was stunning. I think they used more silver this year also. Overall it was very beautiful.

Lazy, Perhaps...

This weekend my husband and I finally washed our cars!

My car has not been washed since March and his car has not been washed since June, respectively. As you can imagine they were quite disgusting! But we did it! Both of the cars are vacuumed, windexed, armor-alled and washed! I know you are just as proud as I am!

My car looked like it had a flat so the husband went and put air in my tires and said that there were only 15 pounds and there should have been 30. I never check the air in my tires as I feel this is a man job.

My car feels like a brand new automobile!

The Holidays

I am finding myself longing to be done with winter and into spring. But winter doesn't even start until next Friday. The holidays would be nicer if I had some sort of tradition. I feel like the traditions are sorely lacking because:

  • I don't have  a real tree so no chance of going out and cutting down the tree.

  • No one ever wants to help put up decorations it is just me decorating everything.

  • We don't go "caroling," I don't think normal people do that anymore.

  • We usually go to Longwood Gardens but I don't think that is going to happen this year.

If you have a neat tradition that you wouldn't mind sharing please let me know! I must start traditions, it is my new mission!

Tests, Tests and More Tests...

I went to see Dr. R today and he is curious now that I have regular cycles as to why I am not getting pregnant.

So of course he wants me to do two tests I have never done before.

One I was putting off especially after a friend of mine told me how awkward, embarrassing, difficult, whatever you want to call it, was and that she couldn't do it.

The other one is PAINFUL! I had a similar procedure done where they move your cervix slightly and makes you feel like you are having contractions. I assure you this is a true statement. When that procedure was done, I went to get off the table and almost fell over it was so painful. Apparently, I looked ill because my mom came running over to me.

I hope this time it goes better.

The old me would have cried today in Dr. R's office when he said I might not be able to do IVF and that we wanted to explore other avenues first. The new me is surprisingly tougher.  I didn't even feel like crying, it feels weird to me, shocking even.

Apparently a little break is just what I needed, it must have made me a stronger person.

In-Vitro Fertilization, And So It Begins.

I have PCOS. It will be two years in March since I first started trying to get pregnant. I tried on my own for 6 months, nothing. I went to the doctor's for 10 months, no pregnancy. I haven't gone for about  7 months, still nothing. I am going to the Doc's monday to talk to him about this:

Infertility is the inability of a couple to become pregnant (regardless of cause) after 1 year of unprotected sexual intercourse —using no birth control methods.
Infertility affects about 6.1 million people in the United States, about 10% of men and women of reproductive age. New and advanced technologies to help a woman become pregnant include in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and other similar procedures.

IVF was used successfully for the first time in the United States in 1981. More than 250,000 babies have been born since then as a result of using the in vitro fertilization technique. IVF offers infertile couples a chance to have a child who is biologically related to them.

With IVF, a method of assisted reproduction, a man's sperm and the woman's egg are combined in a laboratory dish, where fertilization occurs. The resulting embryo is then transferred to the woman’s uterus (womb) to implant and develop naturally. Usually, 2-4 embryos are placed in the woman’s uterus at one time. Each attempt is called a cycle.

The term test tube baby is often used to refer to children conceived with this technique. The first so-called test tube baby, Louise Brown, reached age 25 years in 2003. She was born in England.

Less than 5% of infertile couples actually use IVF. IVF is usually the treatment of choice for a woman with blocked, severely damaged, or no fallopian tubes. IVF is also used to overcome infertility caused by endometriosis or problems with the man’s sperm (such as low sperm count). Couples who simply can’t conceive and have tried other infertility methods that have not worked for them can also try IVF.

This is how the procedure takes place:

  • The woman may be given certain drugs (hormones) to stimulate her ovaries to produce several eggs before the procedure to remove them.

  • A surgeon then inserts a needle through the vagina into the woman’s ovary to remove eggs. This procedure used to be done with laparoscopic surgery, but the needle technique is much less invasive and much easier. General anesthesia is not required for this part of the procedure, but the woman may be given some sedating medication.

  • The fluid removed is examined in the laboratory to make sure eggs are present.

  • At the same time, the man provides a semen sample. He is asked not to have sexual intercourse for a few days before the eggs are retrieved from the woman and before he produces a semen sample (usually by masturbation). The sperm are separated from the semen in a laboratory procedure.

  • The active sperm are combined in the laboratory dish with the eggs. This may be referred to as in vitro fertilization.

  • About 18 hours after this fertilization procedure, it is possible to determine if the egg or eggs have been fertilized and have begun to grow as embryos. They are incubated and observed over the next 2-3 days or longer.

  • The doctor then transfers the embryos into the woman’s uterus through the cervix with a catheter (a long slender tube). The woman should then remain in a resting position for the next hour or so.

  • She is given certain hormones for the next 2 weeks. If implantation works (the egg or eggs attach to the uterine wall and grow), the pregnancy test result is positive.

What The Heck Man!

I feel horrible, yesterday I was really dizzy/lightheaded while I was driving home from work. Today I am still dizzy/lightheaded and last night I went to bed at 7:30!  I think there is something wrong with me!

Voodoo And The Like

Lately my nose has been bleeding like two or three times a week. Last week however my nose didn't bleed at all. So...

Last night Mom and I are driving home from Defensive Driving and talking, she says "Has your nose been bleeding lately?"  I reply "Nope." Literally one minute later I reach up and my nose is GUSHING blood! I said "Mom, you damn jinx!" She said "what?" "Get me a tissue my nose is bleeding!" Through her hysterical laughter she tries to help me find a napkin/tissue to clean up some of the blood pouring down my face.

She said later, "That was pretty cool, I asked and then it happened."

I am not seeing the humor in all this!

Also, Grandpa is in the hospital with pneumonia and dad has the flu. I believe my mother has put a voodoo curse on all of us!
